Ruth Ellen Miller, age 77, went to be with our heavenly Father on May 20, 2012. She has reunited with her loving family, including her husband of 39 years, Reverend Tommy E. Miller, Sr.; father and mother, Aaron and Phyllis Swords; mother and father Mildred and Harold McCoy; her loving son, Aaron Mason Miller, Sr.; sisters, Patsy Reinhardt and Christina Smith; brother, Robert Estep; great grandson, John Robert Sivil; and great great grandson, Michael Calvin Miracle.
This loving mother was born in Springfield, Ohio on Sept. 18, 1934. She was united in marriage on Aug. 30, 1955, to Tommy E. Miller. From this union they brought to us sons, Tommy E. Miller, Jr. (Bonnie) of Middlesboro, Ky., William L. Miller, Sr. (Susan) of Lewiston; daughter, Donna Ellen Vanier (Mitch) of Gaylord; sons, Robert J. Miller (Michelle) of Vienna and Matthew A. Miller of Lewiston. She was blessed with 24 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Also mourning her loss are brothers, Carl Swords (JoAnne) of Montrose, Harold Swords (Shirley) of Rockwood, Tenn., and David Swords (Pam) of Springfield, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Joe Miller (Pam) of Evansville, Tenn. and Terry Miller (Becky) of Bradenton, Fla. Numerous nieces and nephews also mourn in her passing.
Mrs. Ruth Miller was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Lewiston Post #6335 and a foster grandparent at Lewiston Elementary School. The couple was also members of the Child and Family of Northern Michigan Foster Care, having over 70 foster children in their home throughout the years. They were honored as Foster Parents of the Year in 1995 and received two governor awards for exemplary service.
She enjoyed cake making, flower arranging, gardening, crocheting and cooking but loved more than anything, to play with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of her life at First Baptist Church in Lewiston at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 25, officiated by Pastor Don Evilsizer.
Viewing will be held at the church on Thursday, May 24 from 5-9 p.m. and on Friday, May 25 from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Mrs. Miller may be made to the Foster Grandparent Association, C/O NEMCSA, 2375 Gordon Road, Alpena, MI 49707.
