      William E. Virts, Jr., 13, was crushed to death this afternoon when the small express wagon in which he was riding coasted beneath the rear wheels of a seven-ton truck of E. C. Valentine, road contractor. He was dead when take to the hospital in an ambulance a few minutes later.

      Eugene Kemp, driver of the truck, was arrested by officer Allen Bartgis after the accident, charged with operating on an expired chauffeurs license. A further investigation was conducted by State Corporal C.R. Blizzard.

      William E. Virts, Sr., 8 East Seventh Street, the dead boys father, learned that his son was injured as he was working at the plant of the Sun Fuel Company near his home. He hurried alone in his automobile to the hospital where he was told that the boy had died. He viewed the crushed body and returned to the home to inform the other members of the family.

      William, the boy whose Saturday afternoon play was thus tragically cut short, was a pupil in the public schools. He was enjoying the holiday with friends on East Sixth street, near Market just a block from his home when in some way the wagon in which he was riding was caught by the heavy truck missing the front wheels, but running beneath a rear one. It was reported his head was crushed.

      Besides the youths parents, two brothers and four sisters survive. They are Charles 17, and Howard at home; Catherine Wiles, Middle Alley, and 2 year-old sister and baby at home. The father stated he had taken out an insurance policy on the boys life just two weeks ago.

      Sheriff William C. Roderick and Justice Sherman P Bowers went to the scene of the accident but no death verdict was rendered. In the meantime, Justice Alton Y. Bennett was called to the hospital to view the body.

      Two witnesses, Miss Catherine Summers, 23 East Sixth street, saw the accident. Miss Summers was look out a second story window at the time.
