Elizabeth P. Riley, 76, a lifelong resident of Lovettsville, died July 13 at the Long Term Care Unit of Loudoun Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 24, 1908 in Loudoun, a daughter of Joseph Luther and Annie Mae Arnold Shumaker. Her husband, Melvin E. Riley, died on Dec. 16, 1984. A daughter, Betty Riley, also preceded her in death. Surviving are another daughter, Catherine R. Johnson, Lovettsville; sister, Lydia Cooper, Lovettsville; two grandchildren, Cynthia J. Cooper, Winchester and James Melvin Johnson, Brunswick and two great-granddaughters, Keri Beth and Jamie Nikole Johnson, Brunswick, Md. Services were held July 16 from the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Lovettsville, with the Rev. George S. Riggins III officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Arrangements by the Brown Funeral Home, Lovettsville. Memorials may be made to the church. The pallbearers were Edward Cooper, Cleveland Harlowe Sr., Floyd T. Pearson, Clarence Fox, Earl Bramhall, and J. E. Carter.
