He married Alice Roberta Shumaker on September 10, 1891. She was born February 28, 1862 in Lovettsville and died February 25, 1939 in Lovettsville. Both are buried in Mt. Olivet Methodist Church Cemetery in Lovettsville, Virginia.

Mrs. Alice Roberta Virts, aged 76 years, died at the home of her son, Elbert Virts, in Morrisonville, on February 25. She was a daughter of the late Josephus and Mary Ann Miles Shumaker of Lovettsville. Her husband, William Wallace Virts, died five years ago. Besides her son, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. David Mentzer of Lovettsville, one sister, Mrs. Charles Virts and two brothers, William and Luther Shumaker all of Lovettsville. Interment was in the Mt. Olivet Methodist Cemetery, Lovettsville.
