    • Russell Union Tribune, April 16, 1959

John C. May, the son of Mary E. and James May, was born near Russell, Iowa, on May 21, 1879 and passed away at the Yocom Hospital on April 8, 1959 at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 17 days.

On April 5, 1905 he was united in marriage to Lillie Clanin, also of Russell. To this union were born three daughters: Mrs. Kenneth Henderson of Chariton, Mrs. John Pierce of Russell and Mrs. Floyd Gass of Lacona.

In the year 1893, as a young man, John May accepted Christ as his savior and united with the former Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. of Russell, now the United Presbyterian Church of the U.S.A. of Russell to which he served in several offices and remained faithful until his death.

He was always interested in his Church and Community and will be greatly missed by the Chrisian fellowship of which he was a member, and by his family and friends.

Besides his wife and three daughters he leaves to mourn his passing four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also three sisters, Belle Bradley of Dubuque, Mabel Robb of Russell and Junia Van Nice of Russell, and three brothers, George of Forest Grove, Oregon, Will and Lloyd of Russell.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother Virgil of Marinette, Wisconsin and an infant granddaughter, Kay Joan Henderson.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 11, in the Woodman Funeral Home. Walter W. Longer, Student Pastor of the United Presbyterian Church officiated. Interment was in the Russell Cemetery.
