      Harold Dean Joy, the second of five children of Ralph and Bernice (Henby)Joy, was born September 12, 1922, in Hardy, Nebraska. He passed away June 3, 1993, at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center, Broken Bow, Nebraska.
      Harold attended grade school at Ruskin before moving with his family to Loveland, Colorado, where he graduated from high school in 1940. In 1942, he worked for the War Department in Washington, D.C. as a clerk/typist. Harold entered the Army-Air Force in 1943. After his tour of duty in the Pacific Theatre during WW II, Harold was honorably discharged in January 1946.

      On August 22, 1943, he was united in marriage to Letha A. Lewis in Ruskin. To this union were born four children.

      The couple made their homes in Auburn and Broken Bow. While in Auburn, Harold worked as a controller at Darling Transfer Company for 14 years. In 1968, the family moved to Broken Bow, where he was agency manager for Farm Bureau
      Insurance for 17 years before retiring in 1987. He enjoyed a hobby of matting and framing pictures, which he developed into a small business.

      Harold was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 50 years, serving as elder and treasurer. He was raised to the degree of Master Mason in Blue Lodge
      on June 13, 1962, and served as Worshipful Master at Auburn in 1966. He was a past master of Custer Lodge No. 148 in Broken Bow. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of The Shrine. Harold was presently commander of V.F.W. Post #3576 in Broken Bow.

      Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Robert McKelva.
      Survivors include his wife, Letha of Broken Bow; two sons, Gregory, and a special friend, Susan Muller of Lincoln and Earl and his wife Cathy of Elm Creek; two daughters, Jacquelyn Cliffe and her husband, Dan, of DeKalb, Illinois, and Deborah Govier and her husband, Frank, of Weissert; two brothers, Marvin and his wife, BobbieLou of Casper, Wyoming, and Keith and his wife Geri, of Denver, Colorado; one sister, Shirley Rhoades of Loveland, Colorado; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

      Funeral services were held June 7 at 11 a.m. at Govier Brother's Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. David Lux officiating. Burial was in the Broken Bow
      Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements.

      Music was provided by Norma Johnson, organist, and Allen Woodward, soloist.
      Pallbearers were Harold Grooms, Norland Carr, Calvin Johnson, Jerry Bigbee, Ivan Nelson and Leroy Carr.
