Mary Elizabeth Caldwell, 85, died at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Parkview Convalescent Center in Paducah. She was born May 22, 1922, in Maceo, a daughter of Ollie and Stella (Foreman) Wedding. She was a 1940 graduate of Daviess County High School and a 1942 graduate of Owensboro Business College. Upon graduation, she immediately started work as a junior typist at Wright Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. It was there she met the Rev. Elwood A. "Pete" Caldwell, and they married Aug. 4, 1951.
She led a joyous and dedicated life, serving and participating alongside her husband at churches in Chrisney, Ind., Louisville and Paducah. Mrs. Caldwell was a member of United Church of Paducah and a member and past president of the Paducah Lioness Club, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Jackson House Residents Association, where she lived for 27 years. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a sister, Cathryn R. Masterson.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mark A. and Dorothy (Ulrich) Caldwell of Paducah; a sister, Maggie O. Mayes of Owensboro; two grandchildren, Victoria E. and Christian A. Caldwell of Paducah; five nephews; and four nieces.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Church of Paducah, 4600 Buckner Lane. Graveside services are at 5 p.m. at Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 5 to 7 tonight at Roth Funeral Chapel in Paducah and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
