Elmer Charles Hackley, 77, of 4524 Burkittsville Road, Knoxville, died Sunday, May 28, at Frederick Health Care Center, Frederick. He was the husband of Catherine Ashbaugh Hackley.
Born July 22, 1917, in Loudoun County, Va., he was a son of the late Robert Jacob and Rose Belle Speaks Hackley.
He was a retired farmer and a Methodist.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Gloria Mae Bartlett and husband Pete of Knoxville; three sons, Charles Hackley and wife Marlene of Sandy Hook, Robert Hackle and wife Catherine of Reisterstown and Kenneth Hackley and wife Lois of Knoxville; two sisters, Mary Virts of Lovettsville, Va., and Alice Jenkins of Falls Church, Va.; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Bessie Cogle, Lillie Virts, Jessie Virts and Viola Dixon; one brother, James Speaks; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, at the Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, W. Va. Funeral Services will begin there at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 1. The Rev. Ellen Muller will officiate. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Loudoun Heights, Va.
