Charles Robert Cornwell, age 84, of Manassas, Virginia died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Gainesville Health and Rehab Center, Gainesville, Virginia.
Mr. Cornwell was born August 24, 1924, in Prince William County Virginia, son of the late Robert Herbert and Elizabeth Weaver Cornwell. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Manassas, a charter member of the VFW Post 7589 in Manassas and a past post commander. He was an avid hunter, golfer and enjoyed all sports. Mr. Cornwell was general manager of Randy's Frozen Foods, Manassas for 32 years and had retired from NOVEC.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Floyd "Pinky" Cornwell.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Helen "Pat" Cornwell; three children, Patty Westmoreland and husband, Kenny, Linda McLaughlin and Bobby Cornwell; seven grandchildren, Tracy Jordan, KC Westmoreland, Matthew McLaughlin, Sarah McLaughlin, Michelle McLaughlin, Heather Mergler and Tim McLaughlin and five great-grandchildren, Amanda, Carley, Kalea, Cooper and Kaitlyn.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, December 29, 2008 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 9325 West Street, Manassas with The Reverend Stuart E. Schadt officiating. Interment will be held at Quantico National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Capital Hospice, 10530 Linden Lake Plaza, Suite 200, Manassas, Virginia 20109 in memory of Charles R. Cornwell.
