      Former Mayor Expires of Heart Trouble

      WM. C. NISEWARNER DIES IN BROADWAY

      Broadway, April 9

      William C. Nisewarner, aged 78, town sergeant, and former Mayor of Broadway, passed away at his home on N. Main street at 9:20 this morning after a short illness. His death was due to heart disease.

      Although Mr. Nisewarner had been in ill health for the past several years, he was able to attend to business and was on the street Monday.

      He was stricken sick Monday night and a physician called about mid-night, on account of a heart attack and a, severe cold. He seemed to be improving until Tuesday morning when he took a turn for the worse and since then has been gradually growing weaker.

      He was born in Clarke County in 1852 being a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Nisewarner.

      Mr. and Mrs. Nisewarner moved to Shenandoah County when he was yet a young man. They later moved to Rockingham and located at Turley Mill near Broadway.

      For a number of years Mr. Nisewarner traveled for the Deering Harvester Co. He later became their retail dealer in Broadway. In 1902 he accepted a position as a rural mail carrier and was in the service until August 1920 when he was retired.

      In September 1922 he was elected Town Sergeant and held this position at the time of his death.

      Mr. Nisewarner was elected Mayor of Broadway about 40 years ago and served one term. He filled the office again from July 1901 until June 1902 when he finished out an unexpired term. He has been a member of the Town Council for a number of years and always took an interest in all civic affairs.

      He has been a members of the Broadway Presbyterian Church for the past twelve years and at the time of his death was a ruling elder. He took a deep interest in the church affairs.

      Funeral services will be held from the Nisewarner home Sunday afternoon. The hour has not yet been determined pending word from relatives.

      In the absence of his pastor, the Rev. C. R. McCubbins, the Rev, H. W. Shannon. of Front Royal, and formerly of Broadway, assisted by the Rev. S. D. Hutton of the Broadway Baptist Church will conduct the services.

      Interment will be Linville Creek Cemetery.
