- He was born October 7, 1951 in Grafton, a son of the late Freeman C. and Anna Mae Funk Murray. He was a member of and attended the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and was employed by Laurita Excavating in Morgantown. An avid hunter and camper, he was a member of the National Rifle Association and The Big Ben Hunting Club in Fellowsville. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Ann Root Murray of Fellowsville; two daughters and a spouse, Shelly Ann Murray Moon of Fellowsville and Amy Lynn Murray Phillips and husband Derek W. Phillips of Grafton; five brothers and spouses, Charles and Yvonne Murray of Newburg, Bob and Ethel Murray of Tunnelton, Freeman Jr. and Darlene Murray and Randy and Debbie Murray, all of Fellowsville and Teddy A. Murray of Thornton; three sisters and spouses, Patty and Bill Poling and Debbie and Terry Shipp, all of Fellowsville and Brenda and Jim Larew of Thornton; two grandchildren, Isaiah Luke Moon of Fellowsville and Haley Brooke Phillips of Grafton; 26 nieces and nephews and 25 great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Stuart E. and Geraldine "Tiny" Johnson Root.
Friends may call at Rotruck-Lobb Funeral Homes, Taylor Chapel, Rt. 92, Newburg, on Friday, May 28, 2004 from 4-9 p.m. Private burial services will be conducted at Mt. Zion Cemetery at Marquess
