Notes - Word has been received by Mrs. Odis Nowlin, 620 South Massachusetts Avenue that her father, Joseph A. Verts passed away at the home of his son, Charles Verts at Boonville on Saturday morning at the aged of 86 years. He had been suffering for the past five years with arthritis becoming gradually worse until his death.
Mr. Verts was born near Leesburg, Va., on May 3, 1856, and came to Missouri at the age of twenty-eight and located on a farm near Pilot Grove, where he spent most of his life. On January 6, 1886 he married to Florence Belle Figgins, who preceded him in death thirty-four years ago.
At the age of eighteen Mr. Verts became a member of Methodist church in Virginia and after coming to Missouri established his membership in the Bell Air Methodist Church where he was a faithful worker.
Ten children survive. They are Rev. Lewis W. Verts, of New Hampton, Iowa, Charles, Harry, James, John and Mrs. H. d. Windsor, all of Boonville, Mrs. Odis Nowlin of Sedalia, Joseph L. Verts of Smithton, Ernest W. Verts of Eureka, Calif., and Pfc. F. Verts, stationed at Staten Island, N.Y.
