      Mr. Gilbert Dewey Cooper, 80, of Brunswick, died Monday, Nov. 25, at Beverly Health Care Center, Frederick. He was the husband of Jeanette Cooper, his wife of 55 years. Born March 18, 1922, in Lovettsville, Va., he was the son of the late Millard L. and Flossie Everhart Cooper. He was a retired self-employed carpenter. He was a member of New York Hill United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10421 and Steadman-Keenan Post 96 of the American Legion, all of Brunswick, and the Disabled American Veterans, POW and Battle of the Bulge. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 394th Infantry of the 99th Division of the U.S. Army. He received the following decorations and citations: Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, Bronze Star, Blue Ribbon, Battle of Bulge and Papers from France. He was a prisoner of war for 4 1/2 months at Hamelburg 13C. Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Linda Lee Cooper of Frederick, Rose Marie Payne and husband Eddie of Brunswick, and Susan Cooper-Assi and husband Michael of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Olivia Assi and Nicholas Assi of Mount Airy; one niece, Starlene Fouche of Brunswick; and two nephews, Garland Lee Cooper Jr. and Michael Cooper of Lovettsville. He was preceded in death by one sister, Loudell Howard; and one brother, Garland L. Cooper Sr. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at New York Hill United Methodist Church, Brunswick. The Rev. Naomi Sigler will officiate. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Lovettsville. Memorial contributions may be made to New York Hill United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 217, Brunswick, Md. 21716.
