MYERSVILLE - John W. Eldridge, who served 11 consecutive terms as mayor of Myersville, died at 82 Monday in Bradenton, Fla. Eldridge, who was instrumental in the installation of the town's sewer and water systems, was a retired accountant and bookkeeper. He began his career in the accounting office of a steel firm in Hammond, Ind. He later returned to his home town where he became active in community and church fairs. Prior to his retirement, Eldridge was employed as a bookkeeper for the Myersville Motor Co. He also worked in the Frederick County Treasurer's Office. A native of Myersville, he was the son of John H. and Lillian (Virts) Eldridge. Eldridge was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, where he served as financial secretary and treasure. Surviving are his wife, Nannie R. Leatherman Eldrdige; a daughter, Mrs. C. Edwin Kline of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Mrs. Viola Elliott of Hagerstown; three brothers, Charles and Clarence V. of Hagerstown, and Russell of Washington, D.C. Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Bittle Funeral Home in Myersville with the Rev. Monroe J. Shearers Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Hagerstown. The family ill receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday night from 7 to 9.
