Clarence Virts Eldridge Sr., 87, formerly of 41 E. Antietam St., a resident of Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home, died at the Washington County Hospital Monday. Born ner Myersville, he was the son of John H. and Lillian Virts Eldridge. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church. He had served four terms as county commissioner (16 years), he was chairman of the Tax Appeals Court for 6 years, and had served on the Hagerstown Zoning Board for 12 years. He was also on the Board of Directors of the Coffman Home for the Aging for 17 years. He was a member of Hagerstown Lions Club, the Fraternal Order of Hagerstown Elks Club 378 and the Hagerstown Shrine Club. He was a life member of the Ali Ghan Shrine of Cumberland, the Hagerstown Forrest Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the Palestine Council R. & S.M., the Ithiel Royal Arch Chapter, the St. Bernarnd Commandry Knights of Templar, and the Friendship Lodge A. F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife, Lille M. Ridenour Eldridge; one daughter, Mrs. Russell B. Keener of Hagerstown; one son, Clarence V. Eldridge Jr. of Hagerstown; one sister, Viola C. Elliott of the Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held from the Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home Thursday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Lamar W. Kopp and the Rev. John R. Lebo will officiate. Burial will be at the Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Donations may be made to the chapel at the Fahrney-Keedy Home.
