James "Pete" Mentzer, 69, of Loudoun Heights, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at his home near Hillsboro. Mr. Mentzer was born June 21, 1938, in Lovettsville, the son of George Mentzer and Louise Thomas Mentzer. He retired after a career as a meter technician with Pepco and in farming. He was a 20-year member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and a 15-year member of Neersville Co. 16 Fire &Rescue. He was a member of the Virginia Cattleman's Association and the Brunswick Moose Lodge. He was married for 30 years to Phyllis A. Mentzer. Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Sherie Eaves of Ashburn; three sons, Gregory Mentzer of Hamilton, Brian Mentzer of Ranson, W.Va., and Patrick "P.J." Mentzer, who is serving with the Army in Richmond; four sisters, Alma Misenheimer and Shirley Davis, both of Winchester, Joyce Jackson of Paeonian Springs, and Thelma Sargent of Leesburg; two brothers, Delbert Mentzer of Lovettsville and Perry Mentzer of Charles Town, W.Va.; and three grandchildren. Another brother, George W. Mentzer, is deceased, as is a grandson. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, Charles Town, with the Rev. Roland England officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight and two hours prior to Tuesday's service. Memorials may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W.
