Charles H. Furtney, 92, formerly of 212 Saratoga Street, died yesterday at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland. He had been a patient at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born at Harpers Ferry, W. Va., Mr. Furtney was a son of the late James B. and Susan (Virts) Furtney. His wife, Esther M. (Shirley) Furtney, preceded him in death.
Mr. Furtney retired in 1955 as a telegrapher for the B and O Railroad with 53 years of service. He was a life member of Centre Street United Methodist Church where he served as superintendent of the Sunday school for 15 years.
Surviving are a son, Charles S. Furtney, Pittsburgh; two sisters, Mrs. Naomi Whittington, Shenandoah Junction, W. Va., and Mrs. Mary Darr, Charles Town, W. Va., and two grandsons.
The body is at the George Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
