Mrs. Mattie Prewitt Verts, one of Nelson excellent ladies, died at her home on north Main street Thursday morning at 1:30 of cancer of the stomach, aged 38 yrs. 3 mo. and 9 days.

Mrs. Verts was born in Cooper Co. Oct. 11, 1874. She married to Jas. F. Verts, who preceded her in death two years last Feb. To this union was born one son, Jas. P. Verts, 10 years of age.

Mrs. Verts and her husband lived on their farm north of town. Recently she thought on account of her serious condition it would be better to move to town which she did, and occupied the G. W. Cowan property on north Main street.

In 1898 she united with the M.E. Church of which she was a faithful and consistent member until God said Come home to your reward. Mrs. Verts leaves to mourn, her aged mother, one brother and a sister of Cooper and her little son.

At this time we wish to say that the brother-in-law, J. O. Verts, certainly did all he could to help her in her hours of need of which it was commendable in him indeed, and he will lose nothing by doing so, and we are glad to say that there is a reward for those that do good.

Mrs. Verts was a fine woman and will be greatly missed by all, but when we think of the great beyond where all is happiness, no pain form disease, awe cannot help saying All is well where it is Gods plan.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church Saturday morning at 10:00 by Rev. Pinnell and burial at Nelson cemetery.

We extend sympathy to the bereaved family and friends - Nelson Record.
