- Gene Darwin Abbott, 73, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2003 at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville, Missouri.
The son of Pearl and Ada (Hurley) Abbott, he was born on November 27, 1929 in Omaha, Missouri in Putnam County.
On October 29, 1951 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Joyce Landtiser in Lancaster, Missouri.
Gene is survived by his wife, Marilyn of 51 years; two daughters, Genea Davis of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Marla Abbott of Homer Georgia; 5 grandchildren, Jenifer Mylar, Nathan Mylar, Laura Mylar, David Moore and Matthew Moore; 1 brother, Howard Abbott of Ottumwa, Iowa; 1 sister, Joan Broderick of Bettendorf, Iowa; cousins and many friends.
His parents preceded Gene in death.
Mr. Abbott was a 1949 graduate of the Livonia High School. He attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Missouri and also took college classes through correspondence courses. He was a governmental computer systems analyst. Gene was in the Army during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Alaska. He was a member of the Baker-Sparks American Legion Post #575 in Livonia, Missouri and was an ordained minister with the Baptist Church and also a member of the Lancaster Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 17, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lancaster Baptist Church in Lancaster, Missouri with the pastor of that church, Reverend Robert Cherry, officiating. Pianist, Donna Welte and soloist, Sheryl Fabyanic, will provide the music. Special selections will be "This Is My Father's World', "In The Garden" and "Because He Touched Me". Pallbearers will be Jim Cottey, Danny Welte, Estel Goosey, Douglas Briedwell, Neal Abbott and Bobby Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Baker-Sparks American Legion Post No. 575 in Livonia, Missouri.
Visitation will be on Sunday, March 16, 2003 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. A memorial has been established for the Baker-Sparks American Legion Post No. 575 in Livonia, Missouri. Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery in Livonia, Missouri. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home.
