Mr. Albert R. Smith, 93, of Walkersville,Thursday, April 22, 2004 at his home.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Georgia Speak Smith.
Born Aug. 29, 1910, in Frederick County, he was a son of the late John M. and Avie Staley Smith.
Mr. Smith was a long time member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Utica.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Normandy during World War II and was a recipient of the Bronze Star.
He was a bus driver, retiring from D.C. Metro after 37 years of service.
He was a very active member of the New Midway Volunteer Fire Company.
He enjoyed flying his own airplane, building and riding unicycles.
Surviving besides his wife are three brothers, Staley Smith and wife Doris of Frederick, Ralph Smith and wife Catherine of Walkersville, and Ray Smith and wife LaRue of Walkersville; two sisters, Grace Smith and Ada Frances Smith, both of New Midway; a sister-in-law, Betty Perkins and husband Bud of Thurmont; two brothers-in-law, Jesse Speak Sr. and wife Shirley of Frederick, and Robert Speak of Ladiesburg; special friends and cousins, Sammie and Bob Jaharias of Sykesville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, John and Ira Smith; three sisters, Mary Flanagan, Helen Clem and Amy Smith.
Family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville, on Friday, April 23, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 24, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10625 Old Frederick Road, Utica, with Pastors William M. Bucher and LaVern Rasmussen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.
Interment in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
