Charles Wayne Brown, 64, of Chugiak, died on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Alaska Regional Hospital.
A celebration of Charlies life will be Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 1-2 p.m. at the American Legion Post 33 in Chugiak, Alaska
Charlie was born on May 31, 1947 in Gorman, Texas to Charles Galloway and Viola (Wolfenbarger) Brown. He was the youngest of eight children. Charlie graduated from East High School. He enlisted in the Navy in 1965 and was discharged in 1969. While he in the Navy, he was with an Air Radar Crew in the Vietnam war. Charlie worked for the Department of Transportation- the Alaska Railroad from June 1974 - January 1985. He also worked for Quartermaster Laundry from 1993-1998 and then returned to work at the laundry in 2000 on Fort Richardson base for the last 10 years. Charlie was a member of American Legion Post 33 and volunteered there for 31 years. He served as a longtime baseball chairman for Chugiak Mustangs Post 33 and also held the office of "Sargent of Arms" for a few years. He was also a member of FOE.
Charlie is survived by his wife Kristina; daughter Kara Dinsmore; three step-children Shelly Aguilar, Shanda Hewlett, and Shannon Hewlett, four grandchildren, Samantha, Lucas, Connall and Abigail; seven step-grandchildren Cameron, Tristen, Cayden, Rachel, Trinity, Pierre Jr and Brycen; his brothers and sister Geraldine, Sue, Patsy, Eugene and Earl; his former wife Mary and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandson Garrett.
