YAKIMA - Troy J. Underwood, 89, of Yakima, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2004, at Good Samaritan Health Care.

He was born in Clinton, Arkansas, on July 13, 1915, to Perry and Sarah (Williams) Underwood. His father was an evangelist and pastor, and they lived and traveled throughout Arkansas and Oklahoma during his childhood and teenage years.

Troy met his sweetheart, Lota Rowell, in Oklahoma, and they were married on March 13, 1942. They moved to Yakima in 1944. They had two children, Don and JoAnn. Troy worked in farming and construction for a brief time then at Boise Cascade until his retirement in 1976.

Troy loved God and his family and served them both faithfully. He loved going to his church, Central Assembly of God, where he had taught Sunday school and served on the Board of Deacons in his younger years. He loved to read and study God's Word. His Christian faith and testimony were an inspiration. He loved the outdoors and beautiful scenery of the mountains and the ocean. He and his family made numerous trips to the Washington coast.

Troy was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Lota, his son, Don Underwood, and his mother and father.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Ron Benintendi; grandchildren, Brenda Anderson, Brian Benintendi, Jeremy Underwood, Julie Moss, and Joy Turner; seven great-grandchildren and two aunts.

Special thanks to those who have lovingly cared for Troy during the last several months: Ponderosa Assisted Living, Memorial Hospital and Good Samaritan Health Care.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 20, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at Central Assembly of God, 701 South 3rd Avenue in Yakima. Interment will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Terrace Heights on Thursday, the 19th, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Central Assembly of God in Yakima.
