Donabelle Wedding, a retired teacher and 58-year Atherton resident, has died. She was 91.
Wedding, who died Sunday, was born in Fresno. She was a graduate of Fresno State University and earned a degree in elementary education. Wedding did graduate work at USC, Boston University and UCLA. She had a lifetime goal of wanting to be a teacher, even planning this when she was in kindergarten, her family said. Wedding's earliest teaching assignments were for kindergarten in Los Angeles schools, and first grade in Fresno. While in Fresno, she met her future husband, Damon Wedding. They were married in 1949.
They eventually moved to Atherton and she taught kindergarten at Roy Cloud in Redwood City and kindergarten at Van Auken in Palo Alto. Wedding also taught kindergarten and first and second grades in Los Altos. She retired from teaching in 1991. She decided to return to teaching as a substitute teacher, working in the Los Altos, Palo Alto, Redwood City, and Menlo Park school districts.
Wedding was a member of the California Teachers Association, Los Altos Teachers Association, Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, American Association of University Women, Atherton Dames, Atherlons and Peninsula Volunteers.
Wedding is survived by her three daughters, Linda Bonini of San Pedro, Rosemary Wedding of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Cindy Keitel of Camarillo; son-in-law, Eric Keitel; and a grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Damon; and her sister, Alice Newlin.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church at 950 Santa Cruz Ave. in Menlo Park.
