      CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Robert L. "Bobby" Via, 68, of Charles Town, died Friday, July 18, 2003, at Smal's Senior Care in Ranson, W.Va.

      Born Jan. 28, 1935, in Summit Point, W.Va., he was the son of Hugh A. and Esther Barfield Via of Charles Town.

      He was a 1952 graduate of Charles Town High School.

      He had been employed for 37 1/2 years by the Daily Racing Form at Charles Town Race Track and other racetracks.

      He was a member of Charles Town Presbyterian Church.

      He had been a volunteer at the Mountain Heritage Arts and Crafts Festival, sponsored by the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce.

      In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary H. Mays Via; two daughters, Victoria Quinn of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Kimberly Mills of Charles Town; a sister, Sarah Via of Martinsburg, W.Va.; three brothers, George Via and Charles Via, both of Charles Town, and Clyde Via of Upper Marlboro, Md.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

      He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth A. Via.

      Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Charles Town Presbyterian Church. The Revs. Carlyle McDonald, Chris Halverson and Dr. Wyman Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

      The family will receive friends Sunday and Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
