William Henry Amore, son of William Amore and Charlotte Imons, was born on March 10, 1852 in West Lafayette, Coshocton cty, Ohio. He was a laborer as a young man. On December 14, 1872 he married 17 year old Mary Angeline (Annie) Werts. She was born on February 16, 1855 to William Washington Werts and Louisa Bookless. Annie died on December 5, 1941 - two days before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. She lived to see many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren born. Annie's grandfather reportedly never mastered the English language over his native German however the Werts family was in America for several generations. Her father, William, died when she was about three. A man named Isaiah (Zade) Powelson reared her. Apparently he had her respect and love for she went on to name one of her sons after him. Louisa Werts later married a man named John Simon. The Werts name was Americanized from Wirts although many spellings occur throughout family history including Wertz, Wuerts, Wirtz and Virts.
William Henry and Annie had six sons and one daughter, all who lived to adulthood and many to an old age. William Henry was a carpenter, farmer and shoe cobbler. His grandson, Eugene
(Gene) Amore, remembers visiting his shoe shop as a child. The couple spent their whole life in Coshocton County, Ohio and lived in Roscoe which has been marked as a historic village. He joined the Mt. Zion Methodist church when he was sixteen years old and joined the Salvation Army in 1906. William Henry suffered a slight stroke in October 1933 which resulted in failing health. He passed away at the age of 82 years on July 14, 1934 from heart trouble and hardening of the arteries. Funeral services were held at home, and he was buried in the Roscoe cemetery.
