      Mrs. Marianne Hartman

Mrs. Marianne Hartman, 61, of Salisbury, formerly of Walkersville, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, after a courageous battle with leukemia at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She was the wife of Claude J. Hartman. They would have celebrated their 39th anniversary in January. Born Nov. 30, 1948, in Frederick, she was the daughter of MaryAlice Brown and the late William E. Brown.

Marianne graduated high school in 1967, a member of the first class to graduate from Governor Thomas Johnson High School. She worked at GEICO for several years. Mrs. Hartman left there to raise her children. After her children were older, she went to work at Goodwill until her husband and she retired to Salisbury. She loved being close to Ocean City. Marianne was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Walkersville and later a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Salisbury.

Marianne is survived by her husband, Claude; her children, William Hartman and wife, Julie, of Altoona, Pa., and Dawn Hartman of Salisbury; her beloved granddaughter, Barbara June (Junie); her mother, MaryAlice Brown of Frederick; and sisters, Linda Dougherty and husband, Harold, of Libertytown, and Betsy Abel and husband, Robert, of Ocean Pines. She is also survived by her father-in-law, Claude Hartman Sr.; brother, Ronald Hartman of Point of Rocks; a special nephew and niece, Brad Dougherty of California and Amanda Parsons of North Carolina; and an aunt and several cousins. She will also be missed by a dear friend, Liz Fogg of Salisbury. She was preceded in death by her father, William E. Brown, and mother-in-law, Barbara June Hartman.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Point of Rocks.
