      Clarence Virts Eldridge Jr., 88, of Hagerstown, died Friday, June 18, 2010, at Washington County Hospital.

      Born June 24, 1921, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Clarence Virts Eldridge Sr. and Lillie Mae Ridenour Eldridge.

      He was associated with his father in the Eldridge Dairy as general manager until 1957, and sales manager with Potomac Farm Dairy until 1959. He owned and operated Joy Bread Distributors, delivering bread and milk until his retirement in 1980.
      He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army in England, Germany and France during World War II.

      He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church for more than 60 years.
      He was a member of Friendship Lodge 84 AF & AM for more than 60 years, Ali Ghan Shrine, Elks Club 378, Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, Washington County Hospital Auxiliary and Robinwood Medical Center. He had many hobbies and at one time raised miniature horses.

      He is survived by his loving wife, Joy Michael Eldridge, of 67 years, whom he married May 8, 1943; his loving daughter, Julie Eldridge Carbaugh and son-in-law, Kenneth; a first cousin, Lucille Eldridge Harkless; and a niece and nephews.

      He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Eldridge Keener; and an infant sister, Gladys Jane Eldridge.

      Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Stephen D. Robison and Bishop Joseph Yeakle will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

      The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

      In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friendship Lodge 84, 54 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD 21740; or Otterbein United Methodist Church, 108 E. Franklin St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
