Baker is Given 12-Month Term - Local Sailor Said he Married Two Wives Because He Was Jittery
Seaman Marshall Clyde Baker, 28-year-old Frederick man, who picked the Navy and his first wife in Baltimore Criminal Court recently, had no choice Wednesday in the same court.
Jude Herman M. Moser sentenced Baker to server a year in the House of Correction, commencing at once.
Baker, who told the court recently that he was married twice if five days, said he would like to go back to the Navy.
Jude Moser reported Wednesday that the Navy does want Baker to face a charge of being AWOL. However, the judge said e Baker would have to serve the State term first.
Baker has previously told the court that he was in the Navy two and a half years and had just returned from duty in the Pacific. He said he was jittery from having ships shot cut from under him.
His wife, Edna Bartlett Baker, this city, complained several months ago when she learned that Baker had married Margaret Shaffer without benefit of a divorce.
Before Judge Moser annulled the marriage to wife No. 2 recently. Baker picked wife No. 1 when given the choice.
The bigamy warrant against Baker was obtained last January following an investigation by State Police Cpl. W. W. Corbin.
