      Mr. Charles O. Shoemaker Sr., 82, of Clarksburg, died Saturday, Nov. 14, at Montgomery Village Rehabilitation Center in Montgomery Village. He was the husband of Joy J. Shoemaker, who died in 1996. They were married for more than 55 years. Born Oct. 21, 1916, in Point of Rocks, he was a son of the late Charles Roger and Virginia Wilt Shoemaker. Mr. Shoemaker served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the Corps of Engineers and had worked on the Alaskan highway during that time. He was a Protestant. He retired from the National Bureau of Standards in 1962 as a physical science technician after 15 years of service. Mr. Shoemaker's hobbies were fishing and golfing, and he enjoyed caring for his grandchildren. Surviving are three children, Charles O. Shoemaker Jr. and wife Ora Ann of Clarksburg, Joy Virginia Jackson and husband Bruce of Damascus, and Patrick Lee Shoemaker and wife Paula of Falls Church, Va.; six grandchildren, Bruce L. Jackson Jr. of Pennsylvania, John Patrick Shoemaker of Texas, Marc Jason Shoemaker of Frederick, Jean Elizabeth Jackson-Suthard of Myersville, and Richel Ann and Matthew James Powell, both of Falls Church, Va.; one great-grandson, Zachary Covel Suthard of Myersville; and one sister, Helen Gray Fleming of Woodbine. Friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Road, Laytonsville, where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18. The Rev. Mark Smiley, of Salem United Methodist Church, Cedar Grove, will officiate. Interment will be in Laytonsville Cemetery.
