    Fern Louise May was born January 21, 1909 in Lucas County Iowa to John Clarence and Lillie Clanin May. She died April 3, 1991 in Des Moines, Iowa. She married John Herbert Pierce on June 11, 1928. He was born January 5, 1908 in Russell, Iowa and died December 18, 1991 in Des Moines, Iowa. Both are buried in the Russell Cemetery in Russell, Iowa.

      Mrs. Fern Louise Pierce, the daughter of John and Lillie Clanin May, was born January 21, 1909 in Wayne County and passed away Sunday, March 31, 1991 at the Mercy Medical Center of Des Moines at the age of 82 years, two months and ten days.

      She was married on July 11, 1928 in Russell to Mr. John H. Pierce. A resident of Lucas County most of her life, she retired from the First State Bank in 1972. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

      She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

      She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Beverly Werts of Russell; two sons, Gene R. Pierce of Aurora, Colo. and Donald L. Pierce of Ottumwa; also two daughters-in-law, a son-in-law, nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews.

      Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 3, 1991, at 2:30 p.m. at the Mosher Funeral Home in Chariton. The services were conducted by Rev. Chris Humburg of the Russell First Baptist Church. Music was provided by the Russell Men's Quartet (Jim Werts, Burton Werts, Homer Chapman and Quincy Robb), accompanied by Mrs. Merna Robb. Casket bearers were Dan Blue, Rick Elmore, Bob Smith, Dennis Meeker, Jim Widger, Chris Oxenreider and Brian Pierce. Interment was at the Russell Cemetery.
