Haines Falls ? Charles P. Hommel, 81, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
He was a resident of the Firemen's Home in Hudson.
Born on July 9, 1922 in Haines Falls, he was the son of the late Arthur Hommel and Lillian Brower Hommel Schoonmaker.
He was a heavy equipment operator for Local 825 New York State.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the Battleship Tennessee.
He was a long-time member of the Haines Falls United Methodist Church, American Legion, a very active member and commissioner of the Haines Falls Fire Department for over 50 years.
He was the father of Skip Hommel of Coeymans Hollow, Dana Hommel of Elka Park, Gary Hommel of Platte Grove, Terry Hommel of East Jewett and Gail Hommel of Tannersville.
He is also survived by brothers Scott Hommel and Hillard Hommel, both of Haines Falls, and Frances "Harm" Hommel of Winterhaven, Fla.; sister Barbara Feml of Cairo; eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Friends and relatives may call at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, 7742 Main Street in Hunter, on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Cremation will follow at the Wiltwyck Rural Crematory in Kingston.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, Feb. 21 at 11 a. m. at the Haines Falls United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Karen Monk, with services to follow in the Haines Falls Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Kaaterskill United Methodist Church, Haines Falls, NY 12436.
