Mr. Robert Norman Geary, 90, of Frederick, and formerly of Gaithersburg, died Monday, Aug. 25, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick.
He was the husband of Margaret Truly Geary, his wife of 66 years.
Born March 4, 1913, in Frostburg, he was a son of the late Thomas C. and Marion Williams Geary.
He graduated from Beall High School, Frostburg.
He worked for Celanese Corp. in Cumberland for 20 years, before relocating to Gaithersburg to work for Maryland State Highway, from where he retired in 1979 after 25 years of service.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Gaithersburg, and served 17 years as a head usher.
He was a member of Pentalpha Masonic Lodge A.F. and A. Masons 194, Germantown; Mountain Masonic Lodge A.F. and A. Mason 99, Frostburg; James F. Allen Royal Arch Masonry 33, Rockville; King Solomon Council 13, Rockville; Antioch Commandery 6, Cumberland; Montgomery Commandery 13, Rockville; Ali Ghan Shrine Temple, Cumberland; Ali Ghan Legion of Honor and Hagerstown Shrine Club; and Pentalpha Eastern Star Chapter 38, Germantown.
He was awarded his 50-year Masonic pin in 1997. He was a member of Western Maryland Genealogy Club and Allegany County Genealogy Society.
He spent many hours researching his ancestry and was an avid reader. He enjoyed time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed Redskins games, NASCAR and listening to music.
He was a former member of Rise and Shine Walking Club, Gaithersburg.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his sons, Thomas Norman Geary of Jefferson, and Robert Dale Geary and wife Diane of Gaithersburg; six grandchildren, Norma Jean Gossart and husband Mark of Frederick, Michael Geary and wife Susan of Knoxville, Robin Geary of Middletown, Norman Geary of Jefferson, Kristi Rogers and husband David of Knoxville, and Eric Geary of Mount Airy; four great-grandchildren, Erin Gossart of Frederick, Christopher Geary of Middletown, Colleen Geary of Mount Airy, and Matthew Rogers of Knoxville; a sister, Neva Snelson and husband Albert of Akron, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Ruth Geary of Cumberland, and Alice Geary of Hamden, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
He also will be remembered by his grandson Eric's fiancZe, Starr Leigh of Mount Airy.
He was preceded in death by brothers, George and Howard Geary; and sisters, Vivian Snelson and Edna Richardson.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Road, Laytonsville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 28, at First Baptist Church, 200 W. Diamond Ave., Gaithersburg. The pastor, the Rev. Charles Updike, will be in charge of services.
Interment will be in Forest Oak Cemetery, Gaithersburg.
