      Mr. Richard Leo Carey Sr., 91, a resident of Glade Valley Nursing Home, died Thursday, Nov. 12, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.

      He was the husband of Mary K. Thomas Carey who died in 1994.

      Born March 8, 1907, in Point of Rocks, he was a son of the late Joseph H. and Ollie M. Fry Carey.

      Mr. Carey and his late wife had been engaged in farming in the Adamstown and Walkersville districts for a number of years.

      After leaving the farm, he had been employed at Glade Valley Milling Co. and later for Ralston Purina Co., until his retirement in 1972.

      He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Walkersville.

      He was also a member of Walkersville Volunteer Rescue Co.

      Surviving are one son, Richard L. Carey Jr. and wife Jeanne of Valrico, Fla.; one daughter, Elinor C. Eiker and husband Edwin G. of Frederick; three grandchildren, Joseph L. Carey of Walkersville, Jan M. MacGillivray and husband Scott of Natick, Mass., and John A. Eiker and wife Michele of Richmond, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Paul R., Rachel C. and David A. Eiker, all of Richmond; one niece; and many nephews and cousins.

      Mr. Carey was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel E. Page; one brother, Edward C. Carey; and one daughter-in-law, Ernestine R. Carey.

      The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16.

      The Rev. Mark Foucart, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walkersville, will officiate.

      Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Park, Linden Hills.

      In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Walkersville Volunteer Rescue Co.
