    • Frederick Post, February 18, 1921

Realizing his critical condition, and desiring to return to his former home, Benjamin Eugene Virtz, Albuquerque, New Mexico, formerly of Frederick, traveled over 2, 000 miles to the home of his father, B. T. Virtz, 318 East Patrick street, to die. Death ensued last evening, resulting from tuberculosis, one week after he reached Frederick. Physicians were astonished that he had survived the long journey.

Three years ago Virtz realized that he was afflicted with tuberculosis. He left this city, going to New Mexico where he was employed by a contractor. Prior to leaving Frederick he conducted a blacksmith shop on South Bentz street. He served his apprenticeship with Phillip Seeger. Virtz was for several terms collector garbage in this city. He was widely known in this section.

Surviving his are: His widow, three sons, Albert, Eugene, and Robert, two sisters, Mrs. Mayme Virtz, Frederick, and Miss Elsie Virtz, Knoxville, Md., and a brother, Bernard Virts, Union Bridge. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. C. C. Carty is the funeral director.
