John was born in Florence, CO. on December 26, 1926 and passed away in Reedley, CA on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at the age of 83.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Mae; three sons, Keith, Clark, Kerry & his wife Melody; three stepdaughters, Nancy Patton, Lelia Walsh & Terresia Holt; one stepson, Joseph E. (Jed) Holt & his wife Jill; three granddaughters; four step granddaughters and three step grandsons; one brother, William Z. Barnes & his wife Bonnie; and numerous nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Carl Eugene; sister, Elaura Mae Zulevic; father, Irven Forest; and Mother, Lucy M. Barnes.
John served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1944 to 1946 and was then activated into the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was stationed on a troop transport ship and traveled around the world three times. During his working years after the war, he was a member of the Carpenters Union and an active member with the VFW - Post No. 9241. He built swimming pools, space frames, cooling towers, computer floors, etc. and retired in 1987.
