      John William Hoffman, well known retired farmer of near Adamstown, died at his home Wednesday afternoon at 5:15 o'clock after an illness of two years, aged 70 years.

      He was a son of the late William N. and Margaret Hiser Hoffman, and a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Church Hill, and for twenty years was superintendent of the Sunday School. He had engaged in farming the most of his adult life.

      Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Annie C. Schaeffer Hoffman; three sons, George W. Hoffman, at home; Lewis N. Hoffman, Mt. Pleasant; Lawrence O. Hoffman, Doubs. One brother, David O. Hoffman, Washington, and 15 grandchildren also survive.

      The body is at the funeral home, 106 East Church street, from where the funeral will take place Saturday morning at 11 o'clock. Interment will be made in Mount Olivet cemetery. M. R. Etchison and Son, funeral directors.
