      Mrs. William E. "Buddy" Briggs, 79, of Boyds, formerly of Gaithersburg, died Sunday, Oct. 26 at his home.

      He and his wife Beulah Jane Demory Briggs had been married for nearly 60 years.

      Born March 3, 1918, in Gaithersburg, he was the son of the late Ernest C. and Nanie Roberts Briggs.

      He was a master carpenter for more than 50 years. He built two homes of his own, the first in 1942. He dug out the basement with a scoop connected to a Model "A" Ford rear end with the help of his brother-in-law, Robert Bohrer.

      Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son, Donald Leo Briggs, and wife Violet Joyce of Monrovia; two granddaughters, Lorrie Ann Kapeluch and husband Tom and Stacy Storm and husband Justin; a grandson, James Brian Briggs and wife Linda; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Kapeluch, Cody Storm, and Catie Storm; a brother, Carl R. Briggs, of Annapolis and a sister, Margie Bohrer of Gaithersburg. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Joyce, and a son, Terry Robert Briggs.

      Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus. Funeral services will begin a 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at Grace United Methodist Church, 119 N. Frederick Ave., Gaithersburg. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Lovettsville, Va.
