      Mrs. Celeste Evelyn Hildebrand, 95, of Middletown, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Vindobona Nursing Home in Braddock Heights. She was the wife of Luther Harold "Jack" Hildebrand, who died Sept. 20, 1972.

      Born Sept. 13, 1914, near Jefferson, she was a daughter of the late Roy Eugene and Ruth Evelyn Pfeifer Everhart.

      She was employed with Woolco Department Store in Frederick for many years. Mrs. Hildebrand was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Burkittsville; had served on the church council; was treasurer of the Sunday school; and had served as treasurer of the Gleaner's Class of the Sunday school. She was the leader of the Petersville 4-H club for 25 years and was a former member of the Jefferson Grange.

      She was a graduate of Brunswick High School, class of 1933. She also cared for the elderly for many years.

      She is survived by one daughter, Lois E. Shank and husband, Donald, of Middletown; two grandsons, Jerry E. Shank and wife, Teresa, of Monrovia, and Ronald E. Shank and wife, Jennifer, of Middletown; seven great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Katie, Janelle, Brooke, Taylor, Tara and Chase; and two sisters, Cleta Ahalt of Middletown and Jean Axline of Middletown.

      The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Burkittsville. There will also be a viewing one hour prior to the church service Monday. The Rev. Kimberly Nunberg will officiate. Interment will be made in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.
