Stapleton Conway Deitrick, a retired Combustion Engineering Co. engineer, died in Johnston-Willis Hospital Saturday.
Mr. Deitrick was 89 and lived in Ashland.
Born in Rockville, he received a mechanical engineering degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
He was a project engineer with Combustion Engineering in New York until his retirement in 1960.
Mr. Deitrick was a member of the Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Ashland.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emily R. Deitrick of Ashland; two sons, Lingan R. Deitrick of Powhatan and S. C. Deitrick III of Staunton; and three daughters, Mrs. Frances D. Hopper of Canton, N.H., Mrs. Elsie D. Halford of E Dorado, Ark., and Mrs. Emily D. Burklow of Oak Ridge, Tenn.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in Woodland Cemetery, Ashland.
