    • Ronald Alvin McMurrinm, 60, of Burlington, died at 507 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, at Burlington Medical Center.

      Born April 28, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, he was the son of Elvin and Clara Stumph McMurrin. On Nov. 1, 1958, he married Jacqueline Story in Manchester, Iowa.

      Mr. McMurrin was a traffic and weight sergeant with Iowa Department of Transportation from 1960 to 1968. He was a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the state of Iowa from 1972 to 1974 and for Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison from 1974 to 1976. From 1976 to 1990, he was a professor of criminal justice, psychology and social sciences at Southeastern Community College.

      He served in the Air Force from 1955 to 1959 as a thermal weapons armorment specialist. He also was on the championship basketball and volleyball teams in the Air Force.

      He graduated from Central City High School. He received his bachelor of science and master of arts degrees from Northeast Missouri State University at Kirksville, Mo.
      He was a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Honor Society and faculty sponsor of Criminial Justice Club.

      Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Kimberly Haigh of Burlington; one grandson; four brothers, Richard McMurrin of Cedar Rapids, Irvin McMurrin of Anamosa, James McMurrin of Manchester and Jon McMurrin of Central City; and two sisters, Sharon Corsmeier of Central City and Patricia Williamson of Rowley.

      He was preceded in death by his parents.

      Visitation will be from 7 to 830 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday in Lunning Chapel.

      The funeral for Mr. McMurrin will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Chapman officiating.
