- Arthur "Art" Eakins was born on Feb. 15, 1944 in Concordia, KS to Arthur I. & Eva L. (Caraveau) Eakins. He passed from this life on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Bryan LGH in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 65.
Art married Martha Barleen on June 12, 1968 in Ridgeland, South Carolina. Art served 20 years in the US Navy as a Chief Machinist mate, retiring in 1981. He and Martha returned to Cloud County at that time. He then went to work for F&A, Montgomery Wards, the City of Concordia, Alsop Sand, Pueblo Chemical and Concordia Auto Mart. Art was a member of American Legion Post #76 & VFW Post #588.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Eakins, Concordia, KS; a son, Jeff Eakins, Concordia, KS; a daughter, Chrystal Westgate & husband Rob, Colby, KS; a sister, Sue Ellen Cannon & husband Jimmy, Wamego, KS; brothers, Robert Eakins & wife Kay, Jamestown, KS & Richard Eakins & wife Eunice, Concordia, KS; grandchildren, Lindsey, Katie & Leah Eakins, Mariah Boyer & Riley Westgate.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thurs., March 26, 2009 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia with Revs. David & Anita Strommen officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #76 & VFW Post #588 will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM, Wed., March 25, 2009 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to the Art Eakins Memorial or the donor's choice.
