Notes |
- New Paltz Independent, April 14, 1921
Nathaniel Deyo died on Saturday, at his residence near Forest Glen. He was nearly 80 years of age and had been in failing health for a long time. The funeral was at the late residence on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Deyo leaves three sons, Fred, Jonathan and Andrew; also one daughter Mary. The deceased and the writer were schoolmates together at the old Academy, over sixty years ago. He always lived in the locality, where his fathers had lived, where his ancestors located generations ago. He was born in the house where his father Jonathan N. and his grandfather Nathaniel resided, and which is now the home of his brother, Andrew L. F. Deyo. After marriage he always resided on the farm where he died. Mr. Deyo's great grandfather Daniel Deyo when a young man, moved from this village about 1763 to a tract of 300 acres, purchased by his father Abm. Deyo. His house is still standing, near Ireland Corners. His descendents have resided in the vicinity, to a considerable extent ever since.
The deceased was the worthy descendant of an honorable line of ancestors. He was thoroughly upright, was held in the highest esteem by all and had served as an officer in the Reformed church of New Paltz.
