- Darlene June Hackley, 82, of Side Lake, passed away peacefully at the Fairview University Medical Center Mesabi, in Hibbing, on January 16, 2016.
Darlene was born June 21, 1933 in Hibbing, MN, youngest daughter of Melvin and Mae Lyckholm. She spent her early years growing up in Side Lake, MN, Richmond VA, Tennesee and later settled in Maryland. Darlene met and married her husband Franklin Delano Hackley of Savage, MD. They were joined in marriage on January 5, 1953 in Norfolk, VA. They raised their four children in Savage. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and choir. In 1993 Darlene retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a computer programmer, returning to Side Lake in 1994. She was an active member of Bear River Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and crocheting. Darlene was well known for her baking skills throughout the community.
She is preceded in death by parents Melvin and Mae (Takala) Lyckholm; great grandchild, Aiden Noah Malloy; niece, Trina Gay Cole; and son-in-law, Michael Ray Steedman.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Franklin Hackley; one son: Allen (Lisa) Hackley; three daughters: Robin (Richard) Hoke, Lydia Steedman, and Leslie (David) Scofield; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and sister, Betty Lorraine Gillas.
Spring interment will be in the Alango Township Cemetery.
